creating community
We believe that ART IS THERAPY
so we make our painting process
healthy & accessible
for diverse communities:
1.We CO-DESIGN our Murals with locals from the communities where we paint.
2. We TEACH locals to paint our murals with us through an accessible, customised, colouring-book style, colour-by-numbers system.
3. We use ECO-FRIENDLY paint and supplies.
MAKING
MURALS
HEALTHY
for the painters
& the planet
EYE HEALTH: While white walls cause anxiety and make focusing difficult, colourful murals improve vision and concentration because they mimic nature, where our eyes originally evolved to see.
MENTAL HEALTH: Our Murals provide eco-therapy and Colour-therapy, bringing colours from nature.
Furthermore, the process of Painting is a mindfulness practice proven to reduce stress, expand creativity, boost memory and confidence, enhance motor skills and creative problem solving, and gently release trauma through self-expression.
SOCIAL HEALTH: Group Art Therapy like Participatory Muralism provides a platform for collaborative self-expression, comradery and accountability, building bridges amongst diverse communities, while taking part in the designing and painting of a large-scale mural project is empowering and revitalising to the community as well as their physical space.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH: Did you know that acrylic and latex paints are the leading cause of micro-plastics in our water?
While Spray paint releases toxic VOC’s (Volatile Organic Compounds) into our atmosphere and is harmful to painters respiratory health.
Our Murals are hand-painted with Lakeland Paints, a non-toxic, plastic-free, local paint that has been around for 30 years and is so safe you can eat it!
Learn more here: Lakeland Paints
When we cannot use Lakeland, we utilise recycled traditional paint and responsible paint water disposal methods to insure that micro-plastics do not pollute local water systems.
